Rochor Centre to undergo Transformation

Rochor Centre

Rochor Centre is the multi-colored residential blocks. In order to pave the way for 21.5 km North-South Corridor, these blocks are going to be demolished. North-South Corridor is an expressway that will be linking the towns in northern Singapore with the city centre.

The residents of Rochor Centre are in a hurry to evacuate the houses. Most of them have already relocated. According to the Housing and Development Board (HDB), those who are still living there have just a week to leave the house.

On 29 December, 2016, the HDB said that 567 families who lived there have received their replacement flats, and 504 families from Rochor Centre have opted to resettle at Kallang or in the Upper Boon Keng Road.
Most of the residents of Rochor Centre have handed their keys to their apartments, however, some of the families have not been able to vacate their houses. Therefore, they have asked the authorities to extend the deadline for evacuation. One of the residents who have not vacated the house at Rochor Centre is Shanel Yep, a 38 years old housewife. She is considering moving to an apartment in Bendeemer just before the advent of Chinese New Year.

We have considered their situations,î an HDB spokesman said, and we will continue to work with them in order to evacuate the housing units soon. We advised the remaining residents to move out soon for security reasons. The area will be given to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) when all of the all residents move out.
